The three plan types, in plain language
Every plan is different, and what fits depends on your doctors, your prescriptions and where you live.
Medicare Advantage
- Offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare
- Takes the place of Original Medicare for Part A and B coverage
- Many plans include drug coverage and use provider networks
Medicare Supplement
- Sold by private companies
- Works alongside Original Medicare to help with some out-of-pocket costs
- Doesn't include drug coverage, so it's often paired with Part D
Prescription drug plans
- Helps cover prescription drugs
- Each plan has its own drug list and pharmacy network
- Worth reviewing every year as your prescriptions change
